Human

Wearing no post mortal protection
Reality touches me
All my moral capacities flee
Conviction hanging on by a thread
At my fingertips
Cravings for ignorance induced trips
Righteousness a name I wish to call myself
out of the dark where I wade in ankle deep
Just touching the still rim of oceans
Murky tides moved by fear and deceit
Vast tumultuous waves of passion and rage
Smash small ships carrying justice and peace
Within the pressure of my squeezed fists
My soft skin rips
It bleeds
A visual for things unseen

Half Life Dream

Standing across the pool in the mist
I swim to you
Deep underneath the water tries to squish and lift me
Rising from the water
Dripping into my eyes
I blink and strain to look for you
Pulling myself out of the water
My weight changes
You change too
The love in your touch has left
Our embrace is empty
The light in your eyes has left
Me standing there wondering
How can fear win over a heart
And consume it till death
Do us part prematurely

April

Pushing down on the same pedals
Sores develop on your feet
Scars disguised and worn like medals
Who’s to say that your space
Isn’t just where you need to be
Your calluses brush against my face
My heart beats underneath your knee
Pinned to the floor still beating heavily
Your wheels spinning out in my mud
It’s a sight to behold that’s heavenly
Love jumps out the window with a thud
A forgotten scoop of melted ice cream
Oozes through the grooves of the concrete
My intentions warm like a sun beam
Dries us to dust and we blow down the street

Golden Oldy

-This Poem is an older one. I found it in a random file of papers a few days ago. I wrote it to God during my first stay in Northern Ireland in the spring of 2005.

I want to write a poem for you
I want to write a song for you
I want to write something that connects
With the beauty that is you
I want to lean on my windowsill with my elbows
And daydream about you
"Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your long hair"
I want to drive in my car on a yellow day
With all the windows down and feel the breeze
On my face and in my hair
And share that moment with you
I want to lay in the grass and feel each blade
Between my fingers, and smell the brown dirt
Hear the green rustling with each movement
And give thanks to you with the drunk smile on my face
I want to plunge into ice cold water and feel the goosebumps
Rise all over, hold my breath and open my eyes
See the light reflecting from the rippling water above me
And onto the rocks below me
And dedicate my next breath to you
I want to stand with my toes squished in the rough gray sand
The roar of ocean hitting land
Eyes closed, yet still feeling my body pulled by the tide
The salty mist hitting my dry skin
And let my heart beat loud in awe of you
Because you want to stand next to me too

Surrender

Its so painful to be first
I'm driven by this huge thirst
Yet I fight this urge with lips pursed
How exhausting to be human
Seeing You, and wanting You, then
Seeing me and getting pulled back in
I'm the ugly banner that
The magician pulls from his hat
Unending ribbon, the crowd claps
When at last the parade of deceit
Stops, magician bows, everyone leaves their seat
Part of me plans a grandiose retreat
The ribbon turns into a snake
Slithers off the stage to escape
More joy to kill, more truth to rape

Waiting

Constant white noise of traffic
Sad imitation
For the back home lullaby
Ocean hum
Looking through
Stretching, echoing, duplicating
Windows and mirrors
Pulling, Peering, grasping, searching
Screaming
I'm right here.

Desert Man

These desolate dry, barren lands
These forsaken, underestimated lands
How much blood has been spilled here
How many blind swings thrust here
This man doesn’t know his own name
This man, cannot place one name
The sun beats down and no moisture rises
This is an empty space, there are no horizons
She is standing there, she will take you to the water
She is standing there, she will; even though you haunt her

These lands, they tread heavily
These lands, they pull at your legs, you go slowly
Which direction will this battle rage on
Which decision does this victory rest on
This man he is a rock, a stone, he is silent
This man, though he sits so still, he is violent
In this place there is a body of water, it’s the only one there
There are no birds, the sky looks down with a blank stare
She does not move, she is watching, she will hold you
She does not move, she doesn’t know, if she is bold too

These lands, they are singing, they are a chorus
These lands, they will take you in, they are porous
Why can’t the end be known to this story
Why where they brought here, was it all for God’s glory
This man, he is just a man, he can’t save himself
This man, he can live, but he can’t see himself
He steps in, and the water, it surrounds him
He is sitting there, he thinks nothing can be found that will move him
She came close, she knelt down and she holds you
She came close; she wrapped her arms around
And she holds you

This poem is kind of a song and story about a dream that God gave me. I feel "cooky" saying so, but it's the truth. The full meaning of the dream is still unfolding. Basically, I am the girl in the poem that is leading the desert man into the water and then holding him once he's there, and this is a metaphor for my being a guide/helper to a person(or people) on his(their) journey to Christ. I think there's more to it. I'm still asking God about it.
